World Breastfeeding Week 2014
August is here! Yaaaayy! This is my favorite month of the year for a few reasons. One of the reasons is that my birthday is just around the corner... and Mom's birthday is just a week before mine. My birthday is always followed by a holiday, and a holiday is always a welcome, right? :)
But, in the past few years, August brings about another important celebration, and it is none other than the "World Breastfeeding week" that lasts from 1-7 of August. This year's slogan and theme for World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is BREASTFEEDING: A Winning Goal - For Life! This year's theme asserts the importance of increasing and sustaining the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding - in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) countdown, and beyond. As one of the millions of celebrants of WBW, I too, pledge to Protect, Promote and Support Breastfeeding: it is a vital Life-Saving Goal!

I can't say or write enough on this topic, but I am deeply passionate about breastfeeding. I am into my 35 months of breastfeeding my kids (Son: 19 months, Daughter: 16 months and counting) and everyday I am still learning things about breastfeeding, discovering new limits of my body (or rather booby) with my girl getting more and more "acrobatic" in her nursing positions. If only I can show you all the kinds of martial art stances that I have go through on a daily basis. I can write a book on "100 ways of Latching and Nursing (maybe it should be Wrestling while Nursing) of a 16 month old toddler" complete with hand drawn pictorials. Kinda reminds me of those secret "Kung Fu" scrolls or book that we see in movies.
So, to commemorate the WBW which starts today, I will dedicating a post daily on breastfeeding. There are plenty of things that I would like to talk about, but I will be realistic. I will be touching on some of the most frequently asked questions and also what I have personal experiences with like the below:
- Storing Milk for Getting back to work Status: Done
- Travelling with Expressed Breast milk (EBM) Status: Done
- Pumping While Driving (I am not advocating this for everyone, but I do this on a daily basis, 2x a day) Status: Done
- Breast Milk donation Status: WIP
- How to increase milk production with Power Pumping? Status: WIP
- Breastfeeding beyond one year tatus: WIP
- Breastfeeding during Pregnancy Status: WIP
Sounds like a busy week for me. But I will do my best. :)
